Interactive Presentations

Recently, I saw a presentation using this type of style by Mikołaj Jan Piskorski from Harvard Business School about Facebook.
This is significantly better than the typical .ppt, especially in full day forums.

Social Media Presentation

I pulled this presentation off of Prezi, using the provided embed code.  While I haven't had much chance to actually try out or really look into the SaaS presentation tool, it appears useful on first impression, especially considering the cross-posting embed-ability.  Some other things I would like to look into is how it can handle video, audio, and whether or not it can pull videos into presentations directly from Blip.TV or YouTube ...  Looking at this quick demo, they have embedded videos, but I'm not sure of the source from where the videos are streaming.

Additionally, when you look at the presentation directly on the Prezi site, you can zoom in and out, and move all around the presentation using the same interface commands used for Google Maps.  This is particularly useful if you want to browse a presentation (or happen to be low on time in the midst of giving a presentation).  However, in the above flash-embedded version, these controls appear to not be present.

As a last point, as cool as the embed function is, it's still flash, which means no iPhone compatibility.  Is flash the only way to embed onto sites, in the same way as above?  Will HTML 5 fix this? and will iOS ever accept flash viewing?  These are a few questions I will throw out into the digital ether, which I hope to come back and answer sooner rather than later.

Have You Tried This?

Please comment below if you've used Prezi or other better than .ppt solutions!

True, flash is very resource

True, flash is very resource intensive, and not ideal in most situations. However, I'm in search of a good embeddable presentation that's better than static .ppt. Prezi is cool looking alright, but it hangs my FireFox browser on my MacTower, which is a very bad sign for those with slower computers, NetBooks, and mobile platforms. The search continues ...

The iOS won't support Flash

The iOS won't support Flash until Adobe redesign it for performance efficiency, and that seems pretty impossible given how archaic a technology it is. Check out your Activity Monitor when the above Flash player is running.Mobile devices which support Flash (like Android) run out of battery in minutes when trying to decode it, and don't render it all that well anyway.
