Save The Arts
Yesterday, April 19th, 2010, we went out to cover the march against the state capital to try and affect a positive change in public policy and have the state realize the importance of funding the arts. Durnig my life, I've seen a consistent trend of cutting both education and arts funding, throughout the country. This latest round of cuts is more proof that public officials and government don't value the arts in our society.

The House last week approved a state budget plan that eliminated the Georgia Council for the Arts
Even though arts funding is an obvious way to boost the economy, especially for low income families. Additionally, arts programs have been shown to lower crime rates and increase literacy (some documentation can be found here), this state has short-sighted returns and a complete lack of strategic vision, if this is their plan (or refusal to plan) to "save" the state money.

Thanks for highlighting a greater need now particularly with stresses brought on by our current state of affairs, both domestically and internationally. The humanities become our saving grace especially during times like these.
